Skogar Guesthouse Reviews
Have a Skogar Aug 17, 2014
Sigga, the owner (along with her husband, Gudjon) and hostess is what makes Skogar Guesthouse a gem. The hard assets of this place are inexpensive rates, a hot tub and superb location (a short walk from Skogafoss). Sigga is the soft asset that makes the difference. Her cheery attitude, great local advice and fun conversation makes it seem like you’ve come home for the holidays.
The two-story building is a residence overhauled to cram in as many bedrooms as possible, so things are tight but manageable. There are two bathrooms on the first floor, both with showers, and another upstairs. This latter facility is located where the roof slopes off, so a bit awkward and can turn into a head bangers ball. Towels (and bed linen) are included with your daily rate.
In fact, there weren’t ANY extra charges - we would get hit up for more money at every other place we stayed in Iceland. Breakfast is included and it is the best time. Sigga lays out a buffet of homemade bread, hard boiled eggs, pancakes, a selection of meats & cheeses, juice and more. They have a coffee machine that you just strike a button for as many refills as you need to get moving (and it is in operation all day + night). Everyone sits around the kitchen table while Sigga holds court. We had so much fun just gabbing with her each morning!
Free wifi and free laundry complete the all inclusive package (they have a washer-dryer in the back entrance where the main bathroom is, complete with a bucket of complimentary detergent). Several decks surround the house, affording comfortable seating to enjoy your meals and you are welcome to use the refrigerator plus kitchen facilities. A hot tub sits on one of these decks, constantly cycling through water from a hot spring, meaning no shower required before jumping in to toasty water.
One more important detail. Their cute dog is named Soley. You are allowed to leave him in and out of the house at will, but be aware he is the most indifferent dog I have ever met!
