Impressive! May 14, 2012
This is a large waterfall that can be seen directly from the Ring Road. There is no fee to check it out and a parking lot about 500m from the bottom. There's a hiking trail that runs up to the top of it, but sadly, it was too cold and windy the day I was there to want to make the trek. (Brrrrr!!!!)

The pictures really say it all, so bring your camera and your hiking boots, and hopefully you can make your way to the top for some incredible views!

Don't miss this natural stunner if you're in the area!

Under Pressure Jun 29, 2008
Again just off the main ring road, at the village of Skogar. When you turn off the car park is to the left and you can park right beside the river a short distance from the falls.

Nice spot to have lunch, which we did, and nice listening to the noise from the falls as it is another powerful waterfall.

Riverbank made up of small stones and you can walk in towards the pool at the bottom of the falls. Some legend of a pot of gold hidden behind these falls, and if anyone ever found it they would deserve it :D

Another one where you are going to get soaked 8)How much is up to you, depending how close you want to get. While deep in the mist we met,and were talking to, a Japanese guy who was in with a full set of oil skins and wellingtons 8) I had a pair of jeans and baseball boots :O

Apart from the incredible noise of the falls, you can feel the force of them in the air, as the closer you get the harder it seems to become to breathe as the pressure sucks the air out. I thought it was great fun :)

There are a steep set of steps up the side of the falls if you fancy climbing to get the view from the top, though we passed and headed for the nearby museum.

The waterfall Skógafoss, is situated in the south of Iceland at the cliffs of the former coastline. After the coastline had receded into the sea (it is now at a distance of about 5 km from Skógar), the cliffs stayed behind parallel to the coast over hundreds of kilometers, creating together with some mountains a clear border between the Lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland.

The Skógafoss is one of the biggest and most beautiful waterfalls of the country with a width of 25 meters and a drop of 60 meters.I think this waterfall is breathtaking, almost perfect... and I do think that you will not regret taking the trip to Skógafoss.

Due to the amount of spray the waterfall consistently produces, a single or double rainbow is normally visible on sunny days. I cant even rember Skogafoss without its rainbow.

According to legend, the first Viking settler in the area, Þrasi Þórólfsson, buried a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall. A local boy found the chest years later, but was only able to grasp the ring on the side of the chest before it disappeared again.

At the eastern side of the waterfall, a hiking and trekking trail leads up to the pass Fimmvörðuháls between the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. It goes down to Þórsmörk on the other side and continues as the famous Laugavegur to Landmannalaugar.

Iceland - loved it
** Edit - one of the earliest TB Blogs I ever did, so not the best, all crammed on the one entry. Have been adding a whole series of reviews though, which are half blog/half review to fill in details…Skogar. The waterfall there Skogafoss was enormous, and walked in as close as i could and you could feel the pressure…
What about catching the bus...
The wether in the South isn't that good as it was in the first two days. It's raining about five times a day! After our early checkout in Frumskogar, we tried to catch the bus in Kirkjubaejarklaustur…Skogar to have a walk from Skogafoss and a short hike tour in direction to the volcano. After an hour…
