Sketch Reviews
Nov 04, 2005I have to agree with Angie on this one. This comment may border on sacrilegious, but I would say that the gelato at Sketch is just as good as, if not better, than any of the gelato I had during my stay in Italy. There are only a few flavors to choose from, but the lack in quantity is more than made up by the freshness and originality of flavors that are offered. The chocolate was rich, smooth and creamy - not too dark or bitter. The coconut tasted like real coconut, not the sugary, artifical tasting coconut flavor you find in most concoctions. The texture of the gelato is also perfect. A lot of times when you get gelato in the states, it is far too icy, but Sketch's gelato possesses that, for lack of a better word, "sticky" quality that makes it even more delicious. One potential drawback is its remote location, as it is a bit far away from downtown Berkeley. This might be a mixed blessing, however. I have a feeling that if it were any closer to campus, hungry mobs of starving students on study breaks would quickly overwhelm the gelateria and take away from its cozy charm. |
