We were supposed to pull into Skagway at 8 a.m. so when I awoke at seven to watch docking and we were already docked I was disappointed again.  We are the only ship here so we got a nice spot.   We were scheduled to be here until 8:00pm so we took our time this morning showering and …

Today was our day to visit Skagway.  And as luck would have it we were given a break in the weather so that we were able to leave the ship and go into town.  We were going to be there until 8pm so we had plenty of time.  There really aren’t very many things to do in Skagway, other …

So Bernie & I went for breakfast early to avoid the crowd at the Horizon Court; like 6am and actually we did avoid it for the most part. I also saw 2 women that had the same pink jacket that I bought in Juneau. We went off the ship and into the rain; this was becoming too usual b…

Third Port: Skagway
posted by:

I loved this small town (regular population of 800, it more than triples when the cruise ships are in port).   The buildings are quaint.  The main street is well-maintained.  It is another area that is small enough for us to explore on foot although taxis are available, and any …

Intriquing Skagway

This was my favorite town of the whole trip and I'd have liked to have spent more time here. We were told by the young lady who drove us in a carriage into town that the summer population is about 1500 but that it drops to 800 in the winter. While there are a lot of stores and bars for tourists, sh…

We wandered around Skagway for a bit before deciding it wasn't really worth our time. It was filled with tourists and everything looked fake unfortunately. I did buy some nice pasalubongs. We had a quick lunch sitting at the back of the car. I love our portable kitchen...I had a delicious ham and c…

Skagway panning for gold
posted by:
Jul 19, 2006 – Jul 27, 2006
The main street of Skagway looks like a false front town. The front of all the buildings are exaggerated making the town look fake, out of an old movie. We got on a train to take the same path used by the old gold miners...thru the White Pass and Yukon Route. Much of the trip was narrated by our to…

Train trip

Today the ship docked in Skagway. The train line came right up on to the wharf. It looked strange standing on the deck looking down at the train.  We got off the ship and walked over to the train.  We went on the "White Pass" scenic railway. It was a 3 hour journey. It took us through the…

Skagway, The Gold Rush Town

The following morning found us in Skagway, which was my favourite of the stops that we made.  It was THE gold rush town where everyone would come ready to head to Dawson City in search of Gold.  Dyea and the Chilkoot trail were the most popular and quickest way over the mountains into the…

We walked outside, and we waited for awhile because the people who were supposed to take us rockclimbing weren't there yet.  They came in about five minutes, I didn't mind because the scenery was gorgeous!  They were both really cute, haha! So then we got in the little van, it w…
