Sjøbua Alesund Reviews
A fish lover's dream Jan 10, 2011
Sjøbua is located in an old restored warehouse by the water in the heart of Ålesund. In the summer there is a boat anchored in front of the restaurant for outdoor dining. The ambiance is old, nice and warm and with a maritime atmosphere. Sjøbua is primarily a seafood restaurant, but have some meat dishes as well. My favourite is the catfish. I have also tried other dishes and they have all been fantastic. As a starter I always have to have the lobster soup. It is served in a French onion soup bowl with a pastry crust on top and with chunks of lobster. It´s to die for.
Service is excellent. The waiters are very professional, courteous and knowledgeable. They give you just the right amount of attention. The staff is treated with great respect by the owner, something which is reflected in their great service.
When they opened two decades ago no one believed that the restaurant would survive. The locals did not think that anyone would go to a restaurant to eat fish. How wrong they were!
Even though they are only open Monday to Friday they don´t only cater to business people. It´s a nice mix of locals and tourists as well. I have taken both friends and colleges to Sjøbua and everyone has been very happy. Sjøbua is not a cheap restaurant, but it is worth every penny. Starters are around $25 and mains $50. The wine list is comprehensive, if a little expensive – typical of Norway
Sjøbua is not only the best restaurant in Ålesund, but must be one of the best seafood restaurants in Norway. I can highly recommend it and will happily give them 5*
