We stayed in the Shali Lodge for 3 nights in August. We had 2 double rooms in the new hotel building...which was still partly under construction (we were the only tourists in the building at the time anyway). The rooms were clean and beautifully decorated in pale colours with traditional furniture made out of palm-tree. It was relatively cool there, despite the high temperatures, however they also provided us with a fan.

Breakfast was served in the terrace: basic and tasty with traditional jam being its highlight!

The hotel also provided us with a guide who arranged and escorted us in excursions in the nearby springs, the salt-lake and the archaeological sites. They also arranged for us a trip to the White Dessert which lies 160 KM south of Bahariya Oasis (at a good price after a lot o bargaining)! That was a great experience which I certainly recommend.

It's an oasis in the middle of the western desert in Egypt and it's 300 Km from matruh 600Km from Alexandria. In that oasis u 'll find the calm, the nature ,the relaxing climate (in winter and the fall) and the the water springs .The temple of Amoun and the mountain of the death are ones of the interesting historical places .The palms of dattes and the spring of Cleaopatra are fascinating natural created in that wonderful place.U can stay in a backpack or a small motel and even if u have ur camping stuff u will enjoy a wonderful time. The style dominated is the nomads style which is based on the fabrication of the olive oil and hand-made carpets and accessories.
