Cheapest price in the area Dec 19, 2016
We booked their budget room (self-contained with en-suite bathroom) as it is the cheapest price we can find at this place and we do not want to spend a lot of money for the accommodation.

The location is fantastic as it is right at the back of the main street so it is very quite at night time without any street noise. However Franz Joseph Glacier is a very small city so it would not generate much traffic.

Car park is free for the guests and plenty inside the motel units or outside on the street if you can find any, and we can actually park right outside our unit.

This place is a mix between backpackers and motels unit on a separate buildings.

When we check in late afternoon almost night time, the reception was friendly and seems like he is on a working holiday in New Zealand. We get the key straight away after fill in the information form and then he explained what is included and what is not included. We noticed when he said our bathroom would be outside and then I complained as I booked with a self-contained unit with shower and everything. He checked our booking and rectify immediately and give a new key. However we have to pay additional NZ$20 for this. I do not want to complain anymore, so we just paid it and go to our room.

The room itself was old and plenty of knick and knack on the wall, it could be clean more, but it was okay I supposed. There is a sink and free tea or coffee with water boiler in the room to make our self hot drinks. As a standard motel units, there is a microwave oven, a refrigerator, a television, etc if guest want to do own cooking, and a chairs and table inside the room.

We can turn on the heater inside the room to keep it warm as it is cold in Franz Joseph Glacier, however the separate bathroom, sink and toilet, which located inside the room and separate with a door, do not have heater on it, which I found really cold when go there. The hot water takes a long time to warm up when we want to take a shower, but luckily the water get warm and the water pressure was good. Towels, soap, shampoo and hair dryer was available inside the room if guest need to use it.

There is free sup at 6pm in the other building for all the guests. We tried it and we found the taste was awful and after one sip, we decided it was not worth it and we just go.

The bed was comfortable and the wifi working well and fast from inside the room.

We had a surprise visitors (2 of them) which can open our room door with their key. Apparently the reception give both the room and key to two people (us and the other guest who come in when we were inside unpacking). It was rectify immediately, however it was not that nice and can you imagine what happen if we are not inside? Will our belonging safe? Not sure. So, stay there with your own judgment. It cost NZ$110 per night for two people.
