Sint Maarten, Dutch Halloween Nov 12, 2008
Sint Maarten is a feast in the netherlands that is celebrated at the 11th of november. Just like american halloween, children go around houses to collect candy. Many houses are lightened with pumpkins and lights and all children bear a lampion. As the door is opened they sing a song for the opener. To walk around town with this feast is really cosy and fun. Everywhere you hear children singing songs and see little groups of lampions walking around. To tell about it ofcourse is something quite different than being there and experiencing this for yourself. People who never see their neighbours meet eachother and people with lucifers are everywhere trying to keep the candels on in the cold november wind, it's a free to join and if you ever are in the netherlands 11th of novemvber, than do take a walk outside.

note; the feast is not extensiveley in every town so you might find less joy as I described, however, in the surrounding of Utrecht you'll certainly find this feast.
