It is not surprising that Singapore skyscrapers occupy 50% of its land - since the city is known for having the best business environment in the region. In fact, the towering buildings were the first I noticed the first time I was there - imposing buildings in different stuctures. Singapore at night  

The flight from Siem Reap to Singapore was very quick and smooth.  (departure tax- note that you have to pay a $25USD departure tax when you leave Cambodia - they do take credit cards, but the machine was broken when we were there, and they don't take Riel.) I FINALLY got back my passport this afternoon with the Argentine and Uruguayan visa stamps! After a month-long epic visa processing in Manila. HURRAY!!! I leave in 24 hours and I'm still in the office finishing a million things before I go. I will most likely sleep on the plane from Singapore all the way to Buenos Aires! Hopefully wake up fully refreshed to meet the searing heat and humidity of Buenos Aires! First the HEAT and then the COLD, ANTARCTICA here I come!

Immediately the morning after the Beijng Olympics opening ceremonies, Singapore turns 43 on August 9, the same Saturday Ben and I (and his eclectic entourage of friends and acquaintances from all over) began one whole weekend of bumming around on the beach.  The locals call the founding day celebration as NDP or National Day Parade, a funny misnomer since the parade is definitely not the highlight of the event! These bazaars located in Geylang Serai. It is a yearly event for a month and you can feel the festive mood. All walks of life will come here to buy things that they need and also many food stall selling many kind of delicacies from eastern to western cuisine. I really enjoyed being here every year. I think I got Kim too drunk last night.  We ended up spending most of the day in the hotel room.  I read another book and watched a little television since she was under the weather.  At 3pm they had a wine tasting which was very informative and fun.  We tried two white wines, two red wines, and a desert wine.  All of them were great but I'm definatly a fan of white over red. At 6:00 PM Singapore time, we arrived in Changi. I went first to the free internet area, I chatted with my manager in Manila who thought I went awol and he even pondered of reporting me to the HR, until they surfed the net to find out about the cyclone in Myanmar.
