Between 1845 and 1939, Singapore used the Straits dollar. This was replaced by the Malayan dollar, and, from 1953, the Malaya and British Borneo dollar, which were issued by the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Malaya and British Borneo.
Singapore continued to use the common currency upon joining Malaysia in 1963 but, two years after Singapore's expulsion and independence from Malaysia in 1965, the monetary union between Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei broke down. Singapore established the Board of Commissioners of Currency, Singapore, on April 7, 1967 and issued its first coins and notes. Nevertheless, the Singapore dollar was exchangeable at par with the Malaysian ringgit until 1973, and interchangeability with the Brunei dollar is still maintained. that time i decided to travel to singapore through seaport and paid us 50 dollars fiskal, instead of paying the us 100 dollars fiskal if we go through the airport (shhh we still ought to pay this fiskal until 2010). well, unexpectedly, traveling to singapore with boat was even more fun. the plane which took me from… sing sing singapore |

…can’t seem to find any decent prized rooms anywhere; every dorm is full and every single or double room is prized over 60 Singapore dollars, or thirty euros; more than I ever had to pay on my trip, including places in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong. Eventually I find a place in a ‘hostel’ which is more like a hotel on Waterloo Street on the north bank. It’s a crappy… The end of days |

When it was time to pay, we saw in our bill, that peanuts were like 3 Singapore dollars and the hot towel was for 2 Singapore dollars each. We started laughing because it was then that it dawned on us that we were not getting any freebies at all.

Schließlich habe ich beinahe alle meine Singapur-Dollar in US-Dollar getauscht und bin wieder zurück Richtung Hostel gefahren. Die letzten Singapur-Dollar habe ich dann noch in ein wenig Reiseproviant umgesetzt.
Im Hostel mußte ich auch gar nicht lange warten, denn bereits um 15:30 hat mich ein Mitarbeiter… Boarding |
