Silver Hotel Mar 23, 2013
The Silver Hotel isn’t really a hotel - it is more like a small family run guest house with only three rooms. It is located down a small side street in the central part of Tbilisi. We had booked this hotel because it was one of the few hotels showing up on the search engines - I doubt they get many walk in guest since it is located a bit away from the main streets and it isn’t listed in Lonely Planet. When we got to the hotel early in the morning the door was open by an old woman who spoke no English at all. She pointed to a couple of chairs for us to sit while she would walk upstairs to the room. She came back down with a younger woman - possible the daughter of the house - who spoke English and told us to wait downstairs while the other woman would prepare our room.

We got the room early in the day even though the official check in wasn’t for another few hours. The room itself was quite small with a bed which was uncomfortably short - so I had some trouble fitting in it. The room only got the basic when it comes to furniture - but there is an old television on the wall. I think there was some sort of satellite channels as well - but I never really looked into it since we didn’t spend any time watching television in the room - too much to see outside in the city to waste time on the television.

The bathroom was pretty small and for some reason they didn’t provide soap in the shower - but there was a container with hand soap next to the sink which could be used as a substitute. There is a shower curtain in the bathroom but due to the small size of the room everything tends to become pretty wet when you have shower in there.

Our room is the only one in the hotel with a balcony facing the small street out in front of the door. The balcony is pretty small and the weather too cold to make much use of it - so we basically just kept the balcony door shut during our stay. The curtains in the room aren’t really shutting out the light - when we first arrived I thought this might be a problem - so we couldn’t sleep in the morning. But the light issue turned out not to be a nuisance.

The wall isn’t protecting against sound so you can hear everything which is going on in the hotel. So in the morning when people start moving around you will hear this clearly.

There is a decent breakfast included in the morning. This is served from 9 till 11 which are a bit inconvenient if you need to leave in the morning to go somewhere else. You can book the time you want breakfast the day before - but you should expect everything will actually be ready for the time you have asked. It will turn up slowly during the next 15-20 minutes or so.

A Hotel or a local house???? Mar 23, 2013
This place advertised as a hotel in booking.com website. However when we arrive there, this is not really a hotel, more like a family house or bed and breakfast, renting a private en-suite room inside the owner house and only 3 rooms available to rent to the guest and the family live downstairs. Not sure the other room has private bathroom or not as we did not check it. In addition to this, there were no reception at the building and the door keeps lock all the time and you need to ring the bell when come back from sightseeing as you do not have the key to the house. Also the place located at the small alleyway, away from the Main Street and dark without street light at night time, however location wise is 5-7 minutes’ walk to city centre, and many attractions. Personally, it is a bit spooky for me to walk along the alley way at night time.

For the price of 50 euro per night with continental breakfast for two, I though it is quite expensive for what it is, since there are many other hotel with the same price but with better location and room than this place. The owner does not speaks English at all – however the daughter speak English well and we can communicate with her. Unfortunately no map or other information available at this place, unless ask the daughter where the exact location of the place. She gives the hotel name card with a small map at the back of the card to locate the hotel building, but the maps is not that great.

There are plenty of shops, restaurants and bakery at the main street of the hotel which sell local food and a street full of restaurants cater for tourist at the area.

We have room upstairs which is quite small with one double bed (supposedly – however I think it is more like King size single as it was really small), and small balcony facing the street outside. There were not much to see from the balcony since the housing area is quite packed with other people houses and the street were very quiet. Everything is very small in the room including the bathroom and not much space for luggage and kind of crammed to my liking. Luckily they provided towels and clean the room on daily basis and change the towels as well – since we stayed there for a couple of nights.

Breakfast served from 9am to 11am at the living room downstairs and quite decent for it,with fried egg as well. They asked what time we want to have breakfast and everything is ready by the time agreed.

I am not sure how to rate this place, as personally I do not like the location inside the alley way with dark street without lighting and the room is very small for the price we paid.

I would say, the place is okay, but there are plenty of nice hotel with better location at the same price at this place in Tbilisi.
