Silver Dollar City Reviews

Silver Dollar City...Not the best park for thrill seekers! Jul 12, 2008
Silver Dollar City, located just outside of Branson Missouri, is a great park for the entire family. I really do enjoy the festivals here in the fall. But this review is about rollercoasters and thrill rides, so let me focus on that.
Unfortunately, SDC is not geared primarily to thrill seekers, and therefore they do not offer too many fast rides. But there are two I have to point out.
One of them is Wildfire, a rollercoaster that was added about 3 or 4 years, and one that ranks up there with the best of them!!! I have been here in the middle of the week during off season when you could stay on the coaster and ride it continually. I think my record was 15 times without getting off! Wildfire is fast, with a lot of twists and upside down corkscrews. And the view at the top is breathtaking, because you can see across the rolling hills all the way to Table Rock Lake.
Powder Keg is a newer coaster that features a fast take-off...something like 60 mph in 2.5 seconds using a compressed air-launch with spiraling turns, negative gravitational or "G" forces, and "floater" hills at speeds up to 64mph.
Me and family on the front row.....

They actually have four coasters, but only the two I mentioned are what I would call true thrill rides.

Wow...I can't go on roller-coaster! I'm scared of the feeling of free-falling.

1800's Amusement Park with a underground gem Jun 25, 2008
For about $52 (adult) you can enjoy the typical amusement park with roller coasters, water rides and plenty of shopping and expensive food. Although there is one feature that separates most parks from this one; at the entrance to Silver Dollar City is an underground wonder like most thru out Missouri. Marvel Cave was discovered in the 1500’s by the Indians the inhabitied the area and the 1894 was opened to the public for tours by Henry Lynch. To begin this tour, there are plenty of warnings of the strenuous climbs, hike and tight quarters, but worth the effort. Silver Dollar City takes you back in time to the old days of the 1800’s with handmade crafts and bluegrass music. There is lots of attractions and thrill rides for the adults and tons of rides and activities for the kids. It may be your typical theme park but the views are breathtaking with the Ozarks as your backdoor.
