Silken Puerta America Madrid Reviews
Comfortable hotel, good location, breakfast would have made it better value Aug 06, 2011
This hotel was part of a package holiday (flights and hotel) from London to Madrid for 3 nights at Easter 2011. The overall price was average (considering flights were included - no transfers though) but I think that the hotel should have definately included breakfast for the deal. The hotel is classed as a 5* boutique hotel - but that is ONLY down to the unique and unusual designs. The bed was a very comfortable mattress but the pillow (long pillow) was WAY too high and on the first night I called reception- who, on the first time I called said there were no other pillow types, I just couldn't sleep (even wrapped up the complimentary gown to make a pillow out of it).
I phoned again half hour later and they sent two ladies from housekeeping up to me holding and offering THREE different styles of pillow for me to choose from! I took all three, and used two of the different types - VERY comfortable after that. The shower basin was most unusual - actually in the room with a curtain to provide privacy.. but good, hot water flow and very nice smelling toiletries. The bar staff in the hotel were very friendly and fast in service and the pizzas were delicious ;)
On day two, I noticed that our room was dirty (easy to see because the whole room was white) At this time I also remembered that when we checked in, they gave us two rooms very shortly after people had just checked out of them.. The room was dusty in places you would not normally check - ie behind my bad, at the bottom of the headboard and behind the desk area - it was not good. We didn't bother complaining as we were busy out and about.. But they did clean it the next day (day 2 of our stay).
The hotel is only a 5 minute walk to the metro stop called Cartegena on the which on line 7 (the Yellow line) and is very handy indeed and it doesnt take long to get into central Madrid areas.
Good things - close to Metro, friendly and helpful staff (all very good looking men!), Delicious pizza at the bar resturant
Not so good things - Dirty room upon check in - very very briefly cleaned initially. No breakfast included, expensive (5* prices) bar

The best point about this Hotel is its originality. Each floor has been decorated by a different author, so every floor is unique.
If you travel to Madrid very often, you can choose a different floor every time to discover the new little surprises they hide. But if you do not travel so often, you can use the elevator and make a visit to every floor!
Although I recommend this Hotel, I have also found three bad points about it:
- The bathroom gets a little flood when you take a shower.
- The swimming pool is quite small.
- The Hotel is not closed to any touristy hotspot.
So, if you already know Madrid and just want to stay in the Hotel, this is a good option. If you want to see the city, forget it!
