Sikidang Crater Dieng Reviews
"Explosions of hot muddy water" Jan 25, 2013
After looking around the Arjuna Temple, I continue the journey toward the Crater of Sikidang. Like the Tengger Mountains in Bromo. the Dieng Plateau is also a volcanic that is still active. This is evident at the base of the Plateau from the warm fertile soil that makes vegetables grow superior here than in another region. The area here is marked by numerous craters that remove smoke and sulfur in quite a high content. Sikidang Crater is the favorite of these crater attractions of tourists both domestic and foreign
From the Welcome gate it takes about 20 minutes to reach the crater it is best to keep on walking and not stop to much because of the presence of toxic gas with many warning signs along the way up to the Crater, so I advise the use of a face mask which I did also use, with many vendors selling masks with quite cheap price only IDR 2.000. The smell of the foul odor can be overpowering that can make breathing difficult which can leave you feeling out of breath… hmmm the sulfur smell was overpowering to me.
In places there are Explosions of hot muddy water and smoke coming from the ground, tourists visiting should be careful where they are walking and avoid heavy stepping or jumping on the ground to avoid bursts of hot water because in places the ground is fragile.
I managed to walk to the largest crater which is shaped like a basin of hot water containing outbreaks of very hot steam which is Estimated to reach 98 degrees Celsius. In parts of the crater it is bordered by bamboo fences these are meant for safety prevention for travelers who want to get closer to the crater area because it is very dangerous.
Here as in Ijen, East Java. There are many sellers of Sulfur rock named brimstone. Many people use this sulfur rock to relievers skin diseases such as skin fungus, ringworm and even acne.
