Siem Reap Riverside Guesthouse

For more than a few day stay, I would recommend the Siem Reap Riverside Guesthouse. I stayed there for about two weeks last December and found it well worth the $8 per night for the fan room. Air-conditioned rooms are available for about $20.

White tiled floors, sliding windows with screens, light-colored curtains, and a palm tree just outside the window all gave my third-floor room a clean and fresh feel. The room was well-furnished with a desk, two small tables, a hot water bathroom, and a spacious closet. A 21-inch cable television sat on a cabinet which housed a small Toshiba refrigerator. An oscillating ceiling fan - mounted above the center of the room - had a three-position control switch mounted next to my queen-size bed headboard. All of the hardwood furniture and appliances were new. I did have to commandeer a plastic chair from the rooftop patio and an ashtray from the front desk but overall the Riverside was a quiet, comfortable, and relaxing stay.

I was not real impressed with the restaurant service which seemed unusually slow and slightly overpriced. Also, the outdoor restaurant is located too near a sewer line which periodically gives off foul odors. But it is only a ten-twelve minute walk to the centrally located Old Market area and Siem Reap's wide variety of restaurants, bars, and nightlife. I would definitely stay here again.
