After the emotional experience of Calabria we needed a break so it was off to the gorgeous seaside town of Taormina on the south east coast of Sicily.It was a good choice!A very beautiful, relaxing place.Plenty of fantastic food and the beaches were superb!Unfortunately it's a very 'romantic' location so is full of honeymooners and old american and english couples.Regardless, my parents deserved the break and it was a place unlike any of us had seen before.The Greek Ampitheatre was pretty coo...

I spent 7 days in Sicily and a day in Rome (and about a day in the air getting there and back). We toured all over Sicily (Ortigia, Siracusa, Catania, Taormina, and Agrigento) and our final night was in Rome.
The trip was incredible! This was my first time leaving my home continent, and I couldn’t have chosen a better place to go.

I had the chance to go twice on the Etna Volcano in Sicily.First trip was while going through a post-graduate formation on natural hazards and their mitigation. We went there with a Swiss scientist working for the USGS, specialized in the seismic signal or "long period events" associated with the rise in pressure due to the magma welling up from deep within the Earth.
