Authentic Sichuanese Food Sep 05, 2009
A friend who lived in China for several years introduced me to this restaurant. It is the only one in the Indianapolis area I'm aware of that serves authentic Chinese food. When Americans enter the staff often invite them to look at the buffet before deciding if they want to stay, because it doesn't serve any of the Americanized dishes we are used to. Most of the recipes are from the Sichuan region, meaning they are pretty spicy. In addition to a variety of noodle dishes there are always steamed buns in the bamboo steamer and plenty of red bean paste buns, which are my personal favorite. There is a significant Chinese population in Carmel who often visit this restaurant. (The restaurant displays a photo of Yao Ming eating there with friends.) The atmosphere is very casual and the decor is very basic. The only drawback is that it is kind of pricy for a lunch buffet--about $13. I've never been there for dinner, but the menu indicates that they expand their dishes to include Thai food.
