The Siam Oriental Inn, Khao San Road, Bangkok, Thailand. Is slightly set back from the hustle and bustle of Khao San Road
If, like me, you are only interested in using a hotel that is cheap, surprisingly quiet(given it's fantastic location) and as somewhere to rest you're well traveled head at the end of a day of new experiences and adventures, then this hotel may be exactly what you're looking for.
Prices for a single room start at 280 Baht (approx.£5.74/$8).
However, you will find it even cheaper, if you have someone to share a room with, as I did when I stayed. At the time it worked out at approximately £3/$4.77 each per night, for 2 people.
Now, as far as mod cons go, I wouldn't say the Siam is exactly top of the range, depending on how much you are willing to fork out for a room depends on what facilities you are provided with; the most basic room, which offers only a fan, and a 'private bathroom' (more a very small room, into which is crammed a not-so-power shower (cold water only) and a toilet) but great news: toilet paper is provided free of charge, so that's one less thing to worry about. However this room has no windows, so slightly like a crypt, but no need to be negative, eh?
However if you are feeling slightly more flush, and go for the top of the range room, you are provided with a fan, air con, hot shower, TV and fridge. I never personally did 'splash out' on this option, so I'm not sure on the price/quality, maybe someone could fill in these blanks?
So far, not too bad.
I stayed in three separate rooms, on three separate occasions, all reasonably clean, though the occasional bug was spotted... All part of the experience perhaps?
Other available facilities include, a free safety deposit box, a laundry service (neither of which I used) and a luggage storage service, which I did use on a few occasions, was reasonably priced, and I had no problems.
There is a internet cafe located in the entrance of the Siam, though not a part of it, if looking for an internet cafe, the staff will recommend this one to you, however, I, personally, would not. Very old, slow computers, and not as cheap as rival cafe's nearby.
Overall cheap, and perhaps not so cheerful rooms, but the staff were very warm and welcoming, of course, always a bit of a language barrier, but they spoke enough English, and seemed to understand enough of my small knowledge of the Thai language for everything to run smoothly.
Thanks for reading, hope this was of some use to at least one person out there, please feel free to add anything I have missed!
