Shri Swaminaryan Mandir
Shri Swaminaryan Mandir Ahmedabad Reviews
Quick visit! Feb 02, 2011
The Shri Swaminaryan mandir is located in central Ahmedabad, and is dedicated to the Swaminaryan sect of Hinduism. The saint, of the same name, appeared in the nineteenth century and proclaimed that his life would be succeeded by a succession of saints after him. There is a current one today, and the sect has a number of temples.
Declared as one of the key tourist sites in Ahmedabad, I thought it was a nice visit. My rickshaw driver slash tourist guide warned me not to get chatty with any of the temple officials there; apparently, they are always keen to get a donation from you.
The temple is like a gated community off the main road. Although it looks like some school or government official building from the outside, the interior is a rather handsome temple. The figures are very nicely coloured and carved on the outside. The building interior also houses some lovely statues and the temple is heavily attended by many worshippers.
Though not as amazing as some of the other tourists sights in Ahmedabad, it is worth considering to pay this temple a visit if you are nearby.
