Shipley Overview

Shipley, within the City of Bradford, sits on the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Having a population of roughly 15,500, Shipley is a thriving little town that was home to the textile industry, and to Titus Salt who built cottages surrounding Salts Mill for his workers.

Shipley is also home to one of the current large HM Revenue & Customs Accounts Offices, famously built back to front to the original designs.

It is locally famous as the birth place of Harry Corbett, the man who created the famous Sooty glove puppet.
