Ship from Chennai to Port Blair - Andamans Havelock Island Reviews
A horror story or ... the horror boat! Jan 24, 2013
This was really bad... how can I start?
We wanted to go to the islands but flying was out of our budget, so the only option was the 3 day ship.
The ship is old, stinky, filthy, dark... the sleeping areas are divided by decks, each one of the being as filthy as the other.
And then you have the millions of cockroaches, not a few, but literally thousands if not millions of them everywhere you turn. It was something amazing and I wouldn't have believed in it if I wouldn't have seen it!
They were massive, and got inside our clothes when we were sleeping, crawled in our faces, in our hair, inside our sheets and our backpacks. After 3 or 4 days after we left the ship, we still had bugs coming out of our packs!
The food is nasty, try to take some food with you. But worse of all, there are so many cockroaches flying in the canteen while you're eating, that the fear of having one falling in your pate is too stressful.
What can I say about the bathrooms?? Imagine hundreds of people (mostly Indians) using the squatting toilets on a moving ship for 3/4 days and NO ONE cleaning the mess all that time.
Now add people vomiting everywhere!
There was vomit, urine and feces all over the floor. The smell was horrible.
There was nothing positive about this ship really... there's basically no western travelers there, so make sure you bring cards to play or find any other way of getting entertained.
We finally decided to sleep outside on the deck, there were less cockroaches and the few westerners did the same, they didn't even bother go go inside.
All in all you'll have amazing stories to tell afterwards, but the 3/4 days you spend locked in there putting up with all that doesn't make it worth it.
Just get an airplane ticket and avoid the mess.
** we checked all classes and even the 5***** is loaded with cockroaches, there's no difference. We thought about upgrading our ticket, but there's no point**
