Shigmo - Hindu festival - Holli celebrations Mar 14, 2010
Shigmo or Shigmotsav is an alternative for the Holi festival. This festival is celebrated in Goa by the Hindu community. This prominent festival of Shigmo is awaited by everyone. It’s a festival with traditional music, dances and parades.
I was amazed with the magnitude of this festival. Elaborate floats depicting scenes from the Hindu religion, traditional dances, roll of the drum beats and the crowds gathered to watch. Festival started late in the evening. Its amazing to see the crowd gathered from the tiny tots to the old to watch the parades and also participate in it. The parades were just awesome, with dance and drums called the “romot”. Got a few pics to share of the evening.
