Sherwood Forest Nottingham Reviews
Sherwood Forest home of Robin Hood Apr 25, 2011
While I am staying in Derby my friend and I were thinking of interesting places to visit. Sherwood Forest is only an hours drive from Derby and very close to Nottingham.
There are obvious reasons for visiting the forest and natural park, mainly because it is the legendary hide out for Robin Hood when he would rob the rich and give to the poor. It also had the immense beautiful landscape as well as some ancient trees of which I have included photos, namely 'The Major Oak'.
The Major Oak was according to the story, a meeting place for Robin Hood and his 'merry men'. It is supposedly 800-1150 years old and is being protected. At the visitors centre you can view a museum about the Robin Hood story and you can also buy souvenirs, there is a fairground and you can practice archery.
Great for long walks!
