Sheraton Resort Hotel Kauai
Sheraton Resort Hotel Kauai Reviews
Perfect Paradise Hotel Mar 08, 2008
This is a wonderful Hotel!
It is a resort, so there are 3 different hotel areas--Garden (Situated with a gorgeous Orchid Garden), Beachfront, and Poolside. Be sure to check with the hotel to find the best location for the trip you are looking for. They are all well-appointed rooms, but you can find any degree of "quiet and private" or "active and upbeat" that want for your vacation! If you book your hotel as an air/hotel package with Hawaiian Airlines, it can be an excellent deal in terms of overall cost for Air and Hotel. The on-site dining is excellent quality food, if a little spendy for those on a budget (however, the Prime Rib Thursday is actually well worth the price--an excellent deal for a prime rib dinner, and this was a delicious meal--the Sunday fish tacos were an awesome deal, as well!)It is well worth researching retaurants and prices online--there are lots of great places to eat at all different budgets, and remember this is an island where many ingredients have to be brought in from other places. There is a Resort Shopping Village an easy walk away that has quite a few different restaurants at many price points. A Breakfast at the Island Burger cafe in the corner is "don't-miss"--great food any time or meal of day, and Puka Dogs next door to Island Burgers has a reputation that even gets it on Food Network's "best places!" Keoki's Paradise was also a lot of fun for a classy tropical dinner "on the Lanai"! The Beachfront Building faces a small, rocky waterfront and shore walking path on the patio side, and a lovely water garden on the entry side. The sand and "play" beachfront is by the "Poolside" building, with lots of beach loungers, a few hammocks, and reservable cabanas for two. The beach is lovely, the pools/hot spa are tons of fun with a water slide built in, and there is a burgers, drinks, and snacks cafe right there. The rooms are clean, neat, and comfortable--there have been some decorating facelifts in the rooms recently. All the staff were truly friendly and helpful, and the concierge staff are truly commendable for not pushing people into unwanted activities or expenditures--they are excellent guides and connections that really listen to their guest's personalities as well as their wants. (Special note--a helicopter tour is well worth the splurge if the weather is cooperative-the day I went was sunny and clear all over, and the wind was such that we we able to go all over the island. I recommend Island Helicopters, reserve online before you go--excellent price, great soundtrack and pilots, and comfortable ride--an unforgettable experience of a lifetime!) Be sure to contact the concierge desk before arrival if you want to book a luau (lots of fun and with terrific emcee), and especially ask them about the Surf and Turf Shuttle to and from the airport and nearby towns if you are not renting a car. I don't drive, but would recommend a car to truly explore the island, although buses, shuttles, and taxis can get you many places. The Surf and Turf Shuttle trip to the airport will cost about half as much as the taxis at the airport will charge. This was my first trip to Hawaii, and I really thought the Sheraton was just a perfect place! Have Fun, and Aloha! Lea
