Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa Reviews

A bit isolated if that's what you prefer. Dec 12, 2008
The Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa is located in the popular beach area of Kaanapali/Lahaina. It is a short car ride to the Front Street tourist section of Lahaina. Closer yet is the Lahaina Whaling Village - another popular tourist area. The Sheraton is not adjacent to the Whaling Village but is a 10 minute walk from the hotel. I would have preferred being closer to the Lahaina Whaling Village because of the wider range of shops and restaurants compared to the Sheraton.
The hotel offers many diversions (Golf, spa, snorkeling, etc...), all of which I did not use :) The hotel is a very popular site for meetings and conventions. The facilities are excellent for this purpose. There are several restaurants in the hotel. We ate dinner at the Keka'a Terrace restaurant. It is an outdoor restaurant that has an island influenced menu. We also ate Sunday Brunch at the main restaurant. While the food was good, it was overpriced and didn't offer a great variety of choices. An omelette bar, pancakes, fruits, cereals were offered along with other typical brunch items. There was no carving station for things like ham or roast beef. I would advise to skip the Sunday brunch and seek your food elsewhere. Overall it was a fine stay but I think next time I will find lodging a little closer to "the action". Part of the Weekend Trip To Maui travel blog |

A little more culturally-sensitive information Sep 14, 2009
I don't mean to dissuade anyone who has already booked their stay or has no other choice, but I just returned to Maui and more than one local mentioned something that I want to share with anyone deciding on where to stay in Lahaina or Maui.
The Sheraton is built on an old Hawaiian burial ground, which is considered sacred to locals. I hate to think of hundreds of old Polynesian remains being excavated and put who-knows-where just to build a hotel. While I understand that the business of development is in fact a business, I don't understand how this information wasn't accessed before breaking ground, or a coring/geological sample didn't illuminate this dark fact. To me, this is irresponsible behavior of purely profit driven individuals and highly disappointing. |
