Affordable Price Sep 27, 2011
We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, one paid through Expedia ($119) right front of the reservation desk (their rate was more, $159) and another night through Priceline and gotten $30 cheaper ($90). Can't beat that!

This hotel is located on a secluded ocean front, south of Kona, without a beach access due to lava rocks. So if one wants to just chill out and go places near this would be the place to stay since they offer free shuttle service to different locations including one of the best snorkeling places in Hawaii. They have a beautiful garden and provides nice views from many places: hotel lobby, restaurant, over front rooms, and Manta Ray bar. In the evening, one can get a glimpse of huge manta rays from the bar, hear a lecture about the manta rays, watch a movie, play a game of table tennis or pool or have a luau (twice a week). Their swimming pool is okay, have a slide, but no jacuzzi. Several computers are available to use for free( there is a resort fee of $15 for parking and internet service) in the "play area" . This is very reasonable compared to other hotels where they charge $15-20 alone for the parking. There is a big convention center adjacent to the main hotel building, so I assume it can get bit crowded when there is a meeting. When we stayed it was not being used, so the hotel was quiet. Had the swimming pool by ourselves in the evenings. They also have tennis court as well. Their breakfast was excellent, but bit expensive, $23 for hot buffet, $18 for cold. Staff are okay. I almost forgot, upon arrival, they lei you which I thought was a nice touch. The hotel building is little bit outdated and can be little sterile, but clean. The size of room is quite sufficient, not claustrophobic as the Marriott's, but not as nice. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. (Since we had our own rental car, we really did not stay in the hotel too much.)

Watch manta rays without getting your feet wet Jul 29, 2011
This resort is situated on black volcanic bed overlooking the water with nice bay and ocean views but no sandy beach. To the east towers Mauna Loa. Property has a lot of trees and birds are quite active in the mornings. Manta rays swim nearby and can be viewed from a platform, though they are still relatively far to truly appreciate their size.

Kona town is not too far to the north and is close to Hawaii Belt Road going South, beyond town traffic which makes it a convenient base for day trips to Volcanoes National Park, Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, Captain Cook Monument and Punalu'u Black Sand Beach all located on the southern part of Big Island, an area lacking nicer hotels.
