Shepherd's Tree Game Lodge Ltd Reviews
Luxury Accommodation with added Lions! Jul 25, 2014
Nearly three hour's drive north-west of Johannesburg, Shepherds Tree Game Lodge sits nestled on the outskirts of the Pilanesberg Game Reserve.
We had hired a car and managed to navigate our way to the Lodge using only a guidebook.
We arrived at lunch time and were welcomed with drinks and told to leave our bags in our car as they would be transferred to our room whilst we ate. After being given a brief tour if the site we were taken for lunch. The food was exquisite and the staff incredibly friendly. After lunch our assigned game-ranger, JP, introduced himself to us and asked what drinks we would like to take on the afternoon's game drive.
There are two game drives per day available. One leaves at around 06:00 and the other around 16:00. Within 15 minutes of leaving the lodge, we had seen a wide variety of antelope as well as White Rhinoceros.
The animals have been introduced to the reserve over the years. There are antelope, lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffaloes, brown hyena and many more to see.
The accommodation is incredible. The lodges themselves are spread out in a line running away from the main bar / reception area. Each guest has their own lodge. Ours was a party of four and the staff very kindly opened a central room connecting our lodges. The outdoor shower overlooking the reserve is fantastic.
Special mention must go to JP, our game-ranger, as well as Chris the barman who both made are stay all the more special.
We only had one night booked initially, but had to stay for another - and could quite happily have stayed for a week or more!
Wifi is available but at a hefty price and the signal was not great.
