Shelter Everest Borovets Reviews
Sep 17, 2007
I spent a night there before climbing the highest peak peak in Bulgaria and the entire Balkan Peninsula - Musala. The shelter itself is a prefabricated building (metal outside, wooden inside)and is considered to be the highest mountain hut in Bulgaria ( at 2,369 m altitude). It is situated on the north-west shore of the Ice Lake and is a perfect place to enjoy the beauty of the mountain and relax before climbing peak Musala.
The shelter was exceptionally clean and the atmosphere was really nice. It has two levels - with small shop and a lunch room on the first one about 40 beds at the second floor. The drinking water is 2-3 min. away from the shelter and it is a flow coming from the lake. The only problem is that there are no WC facilities available.
During the night if there are no clouds you will be able to enjoy a breathtaking view of the starry sky from the windows in the bedroom ( and it could be ever better if you go outside and see from there )
The prices in Shelter Everest are moderate - accommodation for one night is 4,2 Euro per person. The beverages are a bit overpriced ( compared with similar huts)- a cup of tea is 0.5 Euro,Coca Cola and likewise are 1.5 Euro...etc. There is no cooked food but you purchase snacks , chocolate bars and similar things.
If you can spend several night at the Shelter and explore the beautiful nature in the Bulgarian Mountains . It is a rewarding experience.
