Part of an 'Indian' restaurant company that has outlets in both Northern Ireland (Ganges in both Bangor and Newtownards) and Shapla in Donegal Town and Letterkenny. This is quite simply an excellent, consistent and value-for-money restaurant. They have an extensive menu that quite effectively reflects the variety of what used to be referred to as the sub-continent. Of particular merit are their fish dishes which includes Boal Bhuna (a Bangladeshi fish), Spicey Monkfish and Chingri Bhapey - black tiger prawns with green chillies and 7 master spice. They have a good list of wines and beers including alcohol-free beer.
One serious disapointment is the complete absence of an sherbets, fruits or traditional regional sweets and desserts.
In spite of this little gripe really worth a visit in you are in the area. Contacts for Shapla - Letterkenny: +35374 9103625/27 Donegal Town: +35374 9725645
Shapla is named after the national flower of Bangladesh- a type of waterlily. The majority of Indian restaurants in Ireland and the UK are owned by Bangladeshis. This is because Bangladesh was once an administrative part of the now multinational subcontinent that includes India.)
