Cheap and Meh... Jun 04, 2012
This place was definitely worth the money. The gentleman that runs it was decent and helpful, as well. Overall there are some places closer to town (I say closer but really the town is 4X4 blocks so you really cant get too far from town lol). They have a good setup and a good kitchen if you want to cook. Super close to the only ATM in town and the bus stop which is helpful if you are just passing through. Another thing, the Soda across the street that is kind a duel soad-internet cafe is run by the nicest couple ever and their son I think, they are awesome so go give them some business!

Affordable typical hostel Jun 19, 2011
ShangriLa was decent enough. There was a common kitchen that was rather bare, there was computer/internet access, and a common area and hammocks. It wasn't very exciting because we were the only ones there. The room was standard for cheap hostels, 4 beds in one room (bunkbeds). The room locked and there was an additional lockbox inside the room for valuables. Overall it was okay, it was nice and comfortable but what changed our opinions was the attitude of the owner/operator. He was nice as could be until we tried to have some locals come over. We had met some locals and they came to meet us and the owner was rude saying locals were not allowed and they had to leave. That rubbed us the wrong way and we left the next morning and after that when he saw us around town he just looked at us weird. So ShangriLa is fine if you don't plan on hanging out with locals.
