Price vs. Quality of Room ... Not Worth It Sep 12, 2011
We touched down Kathmandu and got a cabbie to drive us to Thamel street - on the way we were asking if he had any recommended guest houses/hostels.
In a nutshell, we asked for a strategic location and a cheap price. So we got a real strategic location (very quiet at night for sleep - away from the main street) and paid USD10 for the room (2 x single beds with attached bathroom).
Beds were fine but I suggest you have your own layer (towel/light sleeping bag - in my case a 'sarong' i had brought from home). Electricity in Kathmandu isn't stable.
The issue was the water that was coming out of the taps - it was rust and it filled the room with the smell of rust as well. It was really bad. Thank god I had a Katadyn filter to help filter out water for bathing and brushing our teeth.
Overall, I think we should have paid less for such a room. We stayed only 1 night there - and moved on to Nagrakot the following day.
Part of the list India - Nepal (August 2011)
