Little Paradise in Cebu Jul 31, 2012
I stayed here Four times already and the service is really good. There are two reception which you can check in and out. Rooms are good and Shangri-la Standard. They also have something special like Anniversaries or Birthday they make it a point to send a small cake in your room. The pools are great and the beach is not crowded. You should try Chi Spa when you visit this hotel. All the restaurant are good but the Seafood buffet is cheap and a must.

A luxurious vacation spot! Jun 17, 2011
The first words out of my mouth as soon as the airport shuttle drove in Shangri-La's compound were "Ooh..wooow!"

It was my first time staying in such a luxurious hotel-resort, certainly cannot afford it, so you can say I felt like a kid in a candy store- all excited and wide-eyed while exploring the new surroundings. The property was so big that I don't think I got to see all of it nor take photos of every beautiful spot eventhough we stayed 5 nights, we were so busy doing activities that I even felt like it wasn't long enough. Time really flies when you're having fun!

Location:

The hotel is located on Punta Engano Road in Lapu-Lapu, Cebu. It is an hour flight from Manila and it takes about 15-20 minutes to get to the hotel from the Mactan International Airport. The hotel provides an airport shuttle for P150 per way, or you can choose to get the metered taxi outside- one word of advice is, be wary of people who approach you asking for money (for whatever reason- airport/transfer fees), sadly, one tourist in our flight got duped! :( My rule has always been- NEVER give anything to anyone when you travel (especially in any 3rd world country, sorry but it's a fact of life), that includes money or your bags. Better to be safe than sorry!

One downside of the hotel's location is it is almost at the tip of Mactan island so getting a cab back can be tricky especially during rush hour. We have encountered taxi drivers asking for P500-600 for the trip back (double the cost)! Saying it was too far and hard to get passengers out of the compound (NOT true, often times there were guests waiting for taxi cabs!). So I gladly looked for another cab and took the next one who was more polite and didn't demand a price- they usually request for an additional tip, which was fine.

Rooms:

We had the Premier Sea View room, nice! But I heard the Ocean Club rooms have much better views and better amenities too! One is the use of the Ocean Club Lounge- where there is exclusive breakfast in the mornings and free cocktails in the evenings...very cool!

Facilities & Amenities:

Complete facilities: game & internet lounge, business center, CHI Spa, water sports & scuba diving facilities, a huge gym, golf putting grounds, tennis courts, swimming pools & slides for kids, playgrounds, & restaurant choices-

Acqua [Italian cuisine], Tea of Spring [Chinese], Cowrie Cove [international cuisine, with ocean views], Tides [international cuisine, buffet style], Buko Bar [pool side bar & evening cutural shows (check schedule) while you dine], Breeze [international cuisine & smoothies, beachfront]

The hotel also has a daily schedule of complimentary fun activities for guests (ex. kayak lessons, morning yoga, cultural show, tour of the grounds, etc). Do check the schedule when you have your complimentary breakfast buffet at the Tides. It is posted by the entrance. :)

Service:

Nothing is better than the hotel staff knowing your name while greeting you with all smiles... and when they remind you to watch your step everytime (with out fail!) when you walk through slightly elevated areas.

Price/Value:

Though it is very expensive to stay in Shangri-La Mactan (or any Shangri-La for that matter), you definitely get back what you paid for. So if you can afford it, go on, splurge and pamper yourself! It's all worth it! :)

Sunset Cruise:

Oh, probably the best part of my vacation! We got to go on a huge Trimaran and sail until sunset! The rental would cost P14,000 to take it out, luckily there were 4 Korean honeymooners who scheduled before us. And while cruising we saw 3 dolphins, soo cool!!!

a great weekend getaway Jul 05, 2011
Shangri-la Mactan is a great weekend getaway. It is just 15 minutes away from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

I had never been to the Mactan area of Cebu thus when the clear blue waters greeted me at the veranda, I was definitely in for a good surprise. The room that we got was in the Club Lounge floor. Morning and afternoon snacks were provided for as well as a early evening cocktails. The room was as what I expected - clean white linens, soft pillows, firm enough bed. The toiletries provided was one of my favorite brands - L'Occitane. I had the pleasure to swim in the crystal clear water of the beach but also had the option to just lounge in the pool. It is a great property and a destination itself. So if you want to splurge and have a luxurious weekend in Cebu - this is definitely the place to stay.

WOW very nice but very touristy Apr 02, 2010
This is IMO the nicest place to stay in Cebu. I would recommend it for any couple looking to escape to they're own private island. After all this is Lapu Lapu, an Island built of private resorts and homes. There's amenities out the WAZOO! Karaoke, Private beach, private pool, indoor pool, jacuzzi, lifeguard duty at night, snorkel, jet ski, gym..... there's a lot more which you'll have to go look up for yourself. The staff is GREAT and it was the first and only good burger I had in the Philippines, almost tasted American made.... The rooms are great and though I had an ocean view... the garden view is nothing to snear at. Yes this place is the point of the luxury spear. Even the ashtrays have a stamp of quality. The only problem I had was there are so many damn tourists like myself. Mostly Chinese and Korean. My tagalog was useless as all the signs were in Chinese. And besides my gf at the time there were no other Filipino's in sight. So though it would be great if you were getting married I wouldn't go back to party....

P.S. BOOK BEFOREHAND... THIS PLACE FILLS UP QUICK!

This is an excellent resort. Don't be fooled by my 3 stars. It only gets its colors lowered due to the exorbitant price you pay for the room and the horrific extras bill. If you have money to splash, go there. You will be impressed. However, if you're a normal Joe, go there knowing you are going to be out-of-pocket USD280+ for the room and about USD150 - 200 per day in extras (based on two people staying). Not cheap!

Now for the good news. Huge resort. Set on 16 hectares of beautifully landscaped grounds. Think lush tropical vegetation, views of a majestic sea, rolling lawns, sprawling pools, a pitch and putt golf course, blah, blah, blah. The list is endless. The rooms themselves are beautiful. Well designed and have the stamp of velvet luxury all over them. The service, impeccable. The restaurants and bars are also a smash.

In summary, if you have lots of dough, splurge on this place. You will not be disappointed.
