Affordable, comfortable, & close to Pub Street/Restaurant Alley Jun 07, 2011
Riverfront location is perfect for solo female travelers, as it is within close walking distance to the famed Pub Street as well as many good restaurants from French to Cambodian to Indian, Thai, etc. (Happy Pizza or Happy Mango shakes, anyone?). You don't need a tuk tuk to get home, and there's a reasonably priced spa next door to the guest house to get massages/facials/foot rubs after a day at the temples.

Rooms are $12-$15/night, which includes cable t.v., air conditioning, free wifi & regular internet, and you can swim in the pool at the sister hotel across the street. The restaurant at the hotel serves great food for $3.00-$4.00USD per plate (American and Cambodian fare). You can rent bicycles for $2.00/day to cruise along the river.

I'd advise to not go with the tuk tuk drivers there to tour the temples, as they don't know the history. It's best to go with a tour group. But you really can't beat the location of this guest house.

cheap, free internet, free water drink, close to downtown and oposite road is supermarket Oct 14, 2010
room with fan+ A/C both, easy move to everywhere, 5 min walk to pub street, 50m from river, old market, etc

The Shadow of Angkor Guesthouse and Restaurant is located in the center of Siem Reap. The housed in and old French colonial. is the only budget lodging located on the Siem Reap River. Location and the friendly family.

This is a great base for anyone wanting to stay within easy striking distance of Bar St and the 24/7 party you'll find there - it's about a three-minute walk or nine-minute crawl away. The small, basic, cheaper rooms are on the 2nd floor and have fans and cold showers. First-floor rooms are bigger and several have balconies overlooking the tree-lined riverside boulevard. If you opt against air-con you can save a few dollars, ditto for hot water. But as you've probably guessed, it's the location and atmosphere that are the real draws here. The breezy 1st-floor communal area is a great place to meet people, the owners are lovely, and the restaurant downstairs.

When I finally meet up with Laura and Julian, it's all a little surreal. The last time I saw them was seven months ago, waving goodbye as I drove away from our share house in Shef…Shadow of Angkor, in Siem Reap. This is just plain weird - these are some of my best…
