Seydisfjordur Seydisfjördur Reviews
Ferry Port Jul 02, 2008
A disappointing day travelling up the Eastern fjords, as the storm persisted and visibility was practically nil. Lots of little villages/towns with fish processing plants and we stopped off at a couple, but our least active day.
Had booked in to stay in Seydisfjordur and cut off the main road at Egilsstadir. High mountain pass takes you into the town, and it was the only time, given it was July, that we saw any of the bright orange emergency shelters being used, by a cyclists who had obviously had enough.
With the visibility at practically nil, it made the road interesting, especially as the ferry had clearly arrived and we were met with large lorries coming out of the mist a few yards ahead.
On the way down though we did stop at Gufufoss, which by Icelandic standards would be an 'average waterfall.
Nice little town, with the main feature being the blue wooden church. By the time we arrived it was late, but the petrol station has a shop that does snacks, drinks and beer.
Not that far off the main road, and if you are looking to stop over I think a lot nicer than stopping at Egilsstadir, being down in the fjord surrounded by hills
