Today is the day, my sister will get married. Toninght at about six o'clock they will say "I do". Sensible as my sister is, she gave us the morning off. After an exhausting friday, full of exciting impressions, a day that tickeled all the senses, we could have this saturdaymorning to ourselves! My sister was going to be prepared, dressed, made-up and so was her future husband of course. The group split up. My wife and I went for a stroll along the riverside. Not too far, not too long. Just ea…

Plaza Espanol
Laid out in 1929 for an abortive 'Fair of the Americas', the Plaza de España and adjoining Maria Luia Park are among the most pleasant - and impressive - public spaces in Spain. They are an ideal place to spend the middle part of the day, just ten minutes' walk to the east of the cathedral.
Today, the plaza mainly comprises government offices while the surrounding moat can be best appreciated by renting out a rowing boat. A vast semicircular complex with fountai…

I didn't sleep too well, since the shock of discovering the beetle hadn't completely faded out. Yet no other creepy creatures turned up so the night passed by relatively well. I showered in a rush this morning though, as you never know what else one might run into in that scary bathroom... Nothing specific was planned today. Normally we would have spend more time in Triana yesterday and visited the Alcazar now, but since Triana wasn't that special we did all that already. That gave u…

Today's my last day as a student in Sevilla. I'm feeling a little sad to leave the place tomorrow because i've grown to really like this place. It's not so much the place because as much as it's full of culture and sights (lovely barrios and narrow streets), it's not my kinda place to live in. It's more of the people and how they treat each other. Even entering the shops brightens up your day because you're almost always greeted by a genuinely cheerful 'HOLA!' with a brigh…

So we decided to take a couple of weeks off and go see Spain. It didn't take long to choose destination or to pick the route. I guess, we were doing a lot of things wrong and we could think it all through in advance, but that's just us, me and my friend from Latvia, we bought tickets to Sevilla and we knew that in two weeks we have to be in Zaragoza for Pilar's Festival.
It didn't start well. I came to Riga and we had to fly low-cost to London and there we had six hours to change the f…

Sevilla, Seville, Sevillanos, Sevillanas, unforgettable city in the south of Spain, it is the capital of Andalusia. Anything about Andalusia, I like so much. From the view of the city, the people, the food, the architecture, the history and everything about Sevilla. I have nothing to complain about, except that everytime I want to leave this city, my feet are so heavy. Two reasons why I want to go to Sevilla. The first, because of my favourite painter, Diego Velazquez, he was borned there and…

When one thinks of Spain they think of a thriving culture with great cities, beaches, and interesting locales with many dialects of the Spanish language. When I think of Spain I think of the day when Hell froze over and overflowed on my first day of vacation...
It is the late night, I actually believe it was midnight, and a group of four (to include: myself, Preston aka: Postcard, Matt, and a friend we met on the plan trip named Kris) of us get off at a sleepy little air base…

GEEZ... this was a very long day, so it’s going to be a very long entry.
Didn’t get a lot of sleep. Josh snoring should have been the least of
my worries with drunk girls stumbling in at all hours of the morning.
It was nice to take a shower in a bathroom all to myself in a hostel
though. That’s certainly hard to come by. We had breakfast at the
hostel, which, as usual was sparse. Toast and tea for me. I tried to
make Josh drink tea too, but he hasn’t been living in England f…

I successfully made it to Seville, but not without a few obstacles to test us along the way! The biggest of the obstacles being that the plane did not infact land at Seville but airport 50 miles away due to mist. On the positive side Seville was beautiful, a town made with no obvious plan, full of random little streets lined with orange trees and buildings of beautiful architecture. I was staying in the centre, about 10mins from the school I attended to learn spanish. …

Two of the major sights here in Sevilla are the cathedral and the Alcazar so that's what I did today. The cathedral is definatly big, a lot bigger then I expected. I guess the guys that planned it said that they wanted a church so big that when people saw it they would think the city was crazy. They were right. This church seemed as big as the one in Rome and it had small areas along the wall where they could hold sermons as well. They also had, interestingly&nbs…

I was in Madrid for a few days and decided to explore other parts of Spain. I heard alot of great things about Sevilla, so I decided to take a day trip down to the southwestern spanish city. Sevilla is very easily accessible, being only 2.5 hrs from Madrid by speed train.
I got to the Santa Justa Train Station in Sevilla and being that I was only had a half of the day to explore, I started toward the Old City Center. The Old City Center is only 20-30 mi…

El Catedral de Santa Maria de la Sede. Also known to us in english as the cathedral of Saint Mary of the See, is located in the beautiful city of Sevilla. Built in 1402, this is a must see attraction while visiting Andalucia. The reason I call it an attraction is because it is rather expensive for non-working high school student as I am. The total cost for an adult is 7 euros, approximately 10 dollars. As you reach proximity to the Cathedral you will notice that it fathers over the rest …

I studied Spanish in Salamanca, Spain while going on a few weekend trips on the Iberian Peninsula (including Lisbon, Portugal). However, halfway through my trip, someone accidentally dropped my camera when taking a pic for me (T_T) so there aren't much pics for some places I went to. That's ok. Memories count the most. =) Journal entries are from my travel diary I brought with me during my trip. =D

Just have been here for one day. Spain has so much to offer. The people are very friendly and there are so much nice buildings to see. You should spent at least a week here!
