Seven Kings Relais Hotel Rome Reviews
A hotel with issues but also with redeeming features Jul 08, 2012
The first apparent thing about this hotel is that it is not easy to find. Once at the address there is a very small sign high up on the jamb of a pair of large gates. It is easy to miss and we walked up and down with another similarly baffled couple before asking for directions in a cafe.
Once it has been located there is an intercom to gain access to a pleasant courtyard that is shared by a number of other businesses. The hotel is situated in the far right hand corner on the first floor. There is a lift but it was out of order on the day that we arrived so it meant having to carry our baggage up a flight of stairs.
The receptionist was very friendly however and the room was very nice. It was well proportioned with a good size bed that we both commented on as being comfortable. There is a very decent bathroom with a bidet and a powerful shower. The whole place looked like it had recently been refurbished so it was fresh, clean, and modern looking. Our window looked out over a street cafe and a busy road junction but noise was never a problem during our 3 night stay.
The hotel is located on Via 20 Settembre which about 10 minutes walk from both Termini and Repubblica stations in the business district of the city. It is a little away from the action in the heart of the city but a 10 minute walk gets you right in there.
There is no bar or restaurant in the hotel so the included breakfast is taken by means of a voucher which is presented in the cafe next door. The voucher entitles guests to just a croissant and a coffee so it is a pretty basic start to the day.
Other than that the hotel has good amenities including free wi-fi in the rooms (which operated at a decent speed on our devices), free tea and coffee 24 hours a day, a room safe, a mini-bar, and air conditioning that actually wasn't quite cool enough during the exceptionally hot weather while we were there, but it certainly took the edge off.
In summary, we quite enjoyed our stay. The location would possibly an issue for some and the stairs could also be a problem, as could the meagre breakfast. It does however redeem itself in our opinion for having friendly staff, for being finished to a high standard, and for having a certain charm.
