Even though it was expected, it was still a shock. Thirty Euros was the taxi driver’s price, and with no way of bartering, we knew we were at his mercy.
After getting our passports stamped, Michael and I had wandered into the arrivals hall of Belgrade Airport. Almost immediately, the taxi drivers set upon us. Acting cool, I pointed Michael towards the airport bar, hoping our nonchalance would aid our quest to get a better price. But it was a false hope. As we sipped ou...

Summer 2007. A great country with very warm and open people. Totally safe, at least in Belgrade, where I spent most of my time. A meatlover's paradise.

Smederevo is 50km from Belgrade on the right bank of Danube. You can drive to Belgrade by highway, but I suggest to take the provincial road next to the Danube. Enjoy the hills with the wine yards and around every corner you see the Danube in a different perspective.
Founder of the city was the Serbian prince Đurađ Branković in the 15th century, who built the Smederevo Fortress in 1430 as new Serbian capital.

Just went arround Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Serbia. I just wonder how it was possible to destroy a such beautiful country! The people of the new countries are all very nice, proud and corect. Is it possible that just the difference of religion made them kill each other!? I can not believe that!

A brief stop in Belgrade before heading south. I’m tired of the cold and snow. I’m not used to this and it’s been the coldest winter of my life. At least Belgrade is snow free right now. Walked around the main square practically to myself and saw the dismal shops. They are virtually empty. In one I saw an entire wall with only a few identical acoustic guitars spread out evenly as though pretending to be fully stocked with many diverse items. Oth...

Travelling through Europe has been an amazing experience. The more I explore this region, the better it gets. Culture, people, and the life style is simply nice to be around.

There are so many beautiful places in Belgrade to visit- please skip visiting this ugly ZOO. But if You by any chance find your self in side this facility- if and when You notice that animals in this zoo look very sick or in a bad shape- please contact your embassy and state your protest.Thank YOU. ~together for the Belgrade without dark secrets. ~
