Seps Restaurantes Reviews
Unique Meat Dishes Oct 02, 2008
Unbelievable. I felt like a glutton eating lunch at this place. As the story goes, Sep's was originally a restaurant in Paris in the early 1900's and either the owner, or someone closely associated with the owner, brought the Sep's concept (and name) to Mexico City. On the side of a busy Mexico City Street, you would swear that you were in a French bistro. Many popular French dishes are obviously available with a Mexican twist and, unlike a true French restaurant, HUGE portions (see picture). The meal started with fresh baked French bread (I believe 3 or 4 different types) with pate and chilies and red onions in a bowl of olive oil - YUM. Of course, you have to have some Don Julio Tequila to go with it. Too many appetizers to mention nearly filled me up before my monstrous Tornados of Calf (basically veal ribs) arrived on the giant piece of metal they call a plate. I'm a big veal fan to begin with, although I'm not fond of picking up meat with bones in it. However, there was so much meat on this thing that just peeling the very tender meat off the top was way more than enough. For the big eaters, simply start pulling off the ribs, and get to the other meat in between and underneath. Nonetheless, this rustic place reminiscent of the early 20s is a great place to either have a romantic date or party with a large group of friends of business associates (as in my case). Make sure you finish with the chocolate mousse - they are know for it here.
