Stayed here for two weeks in may 2009. Had a great time, the man and woman who own it were very helpful although the lady did not speak english was extremely friendly, and the gentleman gave us help and directions when we asked him and could not be happier to help. The rooms were clean although the lack of natural light(due to the sliding windows being painted over) made the rooms feel quite surreal at times especially on the bottom floor. We moved rooms from the first floor to the bottom floor as we were staying for a long time, they had to shuffle us around to acomodate everyone, which was fine. We even asked to stay 2 extra nights and the owners were very accomodating. i was slightly confused however to the bedding situation but the laundry room on the first floor is open for you to get new sheets etc if you are stayin for more than a couple of nights and a laundry bag is outside. The location couldnt be better, okubo and shin okubo literally a minutes walk, and shinjuku only one stop away. The busy street noise somehow did not filter down to sekitai, very peaceful nights sleep. There was however a problem with rats which we didnt realise what is was at first. They were in the walls and could be heard scratching around which at times made it difficult to settle. However it seemed they were contained to the walls and a bit of a bang on the wall seemed to keep them at bay. The bathroom was spacious and toiletries were provided which i did not expect and was a nice surprise. Great little places to eat in the back streets in the surrounding area and on the main street where the stations are if you want to grab something cheap before going sightseeing. Grocery stores all located within minutes to stock up the fride provided. The location was absolutely ideal!!!!! All in all a great place to stay, especially short term i would recommend to anyone looking to stay here.

Sekitei Ryokan is a small, cozy little hostel located in the middle of Okubo and Shin-Okubo stations in the Shinjuku prefecture.

All rooms are Japanese styled with tatami mat floors, and low doorways. All rooms have their private bathroom with deep bath, toilet, sleeping area, small living space and an entrance hall.

The hospitality of the owners exceeded my expectations upon my stay with them being kind enough to loan out umbrellas for us to brave the bad weather, and also allowing us to break our tenure of stay by leaving one day early and give a full refund on the night that we didn't stay.

The rooms are kept clean, and the bedding is quite comfortable.

I would seriously recommend Sekitei to anyone travelling to Tokyo as it's location is also to be rivalled, especially considering it's a couple of stops by train from Shinjuku.
