MONDAY--SEATTLE

My last “continental” breakfast--an orange, a donut, orange juice. . . I think I was still feeling the amazingly pleasurable aftereffects of yesterday’s Kobe burger. Before we leave Seattle, I have to tell you about this amazing website: www.lostinseattle.com This place will take you down to street level and tell you what building you’re looking at, down to whether it’s open or not, even the hours it will be open; it’ll even tell you how many hours and minutes till they open! It...

The drive to Seattle was uneventful save for Karin and I getting on each others' nerves a little bit. It was the lack of sleep, the hunger from not eating since the afternoon before, and the rushed exit from the hotel. Some frustration over whether or not the US was harder to get into or Canada. You'd think it was the US right with all our crazy laws?? And then some more arguments about the different grades of gas making an actual difference. I want to pull my hair out just thinking about thi...

The flight to Seattle was pretty uneventful. Ever since I took a Ryan Air flight from Rome to London and experienced jaw-dropping turbulence that literally left the passengers feeling weightless for brief amounts of time, I have always felt a bit nervous on planes. Fortunately, the most exciting thing on this flight was a bird sitting on the top of the plane that gave passengers dirty looks as they boarded.I love downtown Seattle because it's small enough to comprehend and easy to get around....

Seattle, Washington, USA -› -› ...
It looks like I'll be headed back to Seattle over Thanksgiving weekend; and I'm not leaving without accomplishing two things.  1) Eating at Jack in the Box at least three times. I really really love their ultimate cheeseburger, and 2) Meeting some of these supposed SEATTLE FRIENDS that my hosts have.  Quite frankly, I wonder if they exist.  I've seen them on Flickr and all, but after the last trip I'm starting to suspect that my friends just crash parties and take pictures. As...

Sleepy in Seattle
posted by:

All I knew about Seattle was that Frasier was based here and that it´s principal tourist attraction, the Space Needle, was an extra from the Jetsons. As it turns out, Seattle was also the birthplace of grunge music (in the shape of Nirvana), Starbucks and Microsoft. Nor did I realise how miserable the weather was. When a guide on our Undergroud tour told us that the official colours of Seattle were grey and light grey he wasn´t kidding. It´s not a bad city despite it´s dullness and (...

Sea-Tac Airport - 7:15 amWe're here in Seattle - still alive! The flight was relaxing and uneventful. We have an hour layover here in Seattle. There are these annoying "art" water fountains here . . . when you push the water button it makes this really loud "GLUB GLUB GLUB" noise. It's supposed to sound like natural flowing water. Yeah right. Anyway, more when I get to Los Angeles!

Journey onward

Agenda for today was to have breakfast and head out to Vancouver by 10.  HA, well, I met with the guys about that time for breakfast! lol  After that we checked out of the hotel, picked up some snacks and hit the road it was almost 1 by that point.  A 4 hour journey awaited us.  I was tired.  I don't know why, maybe the lack of sunshine was wearing me down.  It was gloomy.  It rained the night before, so everything was wet but beautiful still.  Ok, long...

John Hancock - And Goodbye Chicago

Seattle has a very different atmosphere to it than Chicago. It feels more laid back, although I wonder whether this is party due to the weather. The locals are calling it an 'Indian Winter', it has almost been warm enough to walk around with just a T Shirt on! Maybe everything seems more chilled out because no one is rushing from place to place to get out of the cold! Pike Place Market (where our hostel is) is fantastic, a seemlingly never ending maze of passages on lots of diff...

Hong Kong -› Ise, Japan -› ...
Just returned from a trip to Asia.  It was fantastic and exceeded my expectations.  Food was great in Hong Kong and getting around was so convenient.  Almost everyone there speaks a little bit of English so it wasn't as intimidating to talk to people and ask questions.  My friend and I got to see the biggest sitting Buddha in the world and we got our fortunes told at Wong Tai Sin.  It was great.  There is also a delicious vegetarian restaurant at the Po...
