Seaspray Vacation Rentals Ft Walton Beach Mar 20, 2009
Excellent family vacation rentals at a reasonable price with a nice pool, huge grassy play area and easy access to the beach. We love staying at Seaspray and we go there at least once every year. Perfect for families with kids.

Unethical Business Practices Nov 07, 2008
Copy of Better Business Bureau Complaint:
When I spoke to the woman on the phone about the reservations that morning, she told me that the pool was being worked on, and would be out of service that week. I inquired about the beach conditions (safety, cleanliness) then, telling her that my daughter and I wanted to swim on our vacation. She said the beach was great, the sand was white, the water was beautiful, and that yes, we could swim there. I went ahead and booked the place for the 15th until the 17th for a short stay. The evening of the 16th it occurred to me that there may be an issue with sharks, and wondering how safe it really would be to swim there off the beach, I got online to look it up. It was there that I found out a few things I strongly feel that the hotel staff should have told me. The beaches in most of the counties in FL do not allow dogs. This immediately causes a problem for me, because Seaspray is on a narrow island, with beach on all sides, with hotels and a fast highway running through it. In order to go swimming with my daughter, I would have to pen the dog up the majority of our stay. In order to provide exercise for the dog I would have to travel several miles away from the condos, which not only is inconvenient, but it shifts the focus of the vacation a lot. I feel that they should have warned me on the phone, seeing as I was a tourist, and was unfamiliar with the local rules and laws. On the same website I got that information from, I stumbled onto another problem. The beaches there in Florida have a flag warning system, which is basically, green flag means it is safe to swim, and red, it's not. There are other flag colors as well. My problem was this: Now I was facing the problem of how to humanely deal with my pet, AND, it became apparent to me that whether or not we would get to swim was a big maybe. The maybe factor is not something I wanted to gamble on considering I had already put down $300 on deposit, was about to spend $300 more give or take (it was way more give, they underquoted by far on the phone), was only going to be there for about one full day, with a small amount of time the day of arrival, and checkout. When I realized this I was very upset. I called the condos and attempted to get the reservations canceled and refunded, but they refused. In the end we drove down there, had to stay out of the water the first day, there was a red flag, felt terrible over the dogs situation, got to swim cautiously the second day, it was a yellow flag, and got to wade for a short time the following morning because checkout was so early and dogs are not allowed on the beach, so we couldn't leave the hotel for another public beach. I wrote a long complaint to the staff on a survey before leaving, and heard nothing from them until last Friday the 31st of Oct. They billed me for two blinds that were supposedly broken! I made a thorough walkthrough before leaving, even swept the place with the broom in the closet. That place was immaculate, the only thing nasty about it was the dead lizard I had found and left for housekeeping. I strongly feel that that company misled me to make a quick buck in the offseason. They turned what should have been a nice mini vacation and turned it into a royal pain. I am sure that there was nothing wrong with that room when I left. |
