Searobin Dive Center - Koh Samui - TravBuddy

Alex and I have made 3 trips to Koh Samui over the last 5 years – we love it here! When in Samui, we always make sure we dive Chumphon pinnacle. I believe it’s the best dive site in the Gulf of Thailand and is famous for the sharks that swim around the pinnacle. Last week, we went to Chumphon pinnacle with a dive company called Searobin. We wanted to go with a smaller company this time as previously we’ve used larger companies and had bad luck with them – way too many divers in the water scaring off the sharks, too much chaos and noise. If we did manage to see a shark, it was usually just the tail in the distance as it swam away. With Searobin, we took a high speed catamaran over to Koh Nangyuan Island where we switched to their dive boat. Alex and I and our instructor, Andre, had the boat all to ourselves!! It was fabulous – lots of space to set up gear and walk around.
When we got to Chumphon Pinnacle I was a little deflated as there were 4 other boats moored there as we pulled up. Miraculously though they were all leaving just as we were getting ready to start our dive and we ended up being the ONLY people at the dive site – just the 3 of us! As a result, we saw 3 sharks and they were very curious – coming up pretty close to check us out. They just kept circling and circling around us.
We paid 3800 Baht for the two dives which we thought excellent value..
We were all disappointed when we had to end the dive and go for lunch! Next time, I wonder if there’s a way we can skip lunch and do 2 dives on Chumpon instead…?!
