Seal Colony Mar 02, 2008
There are New Zealand Fur seals all along the Kaikoura coastline on the rocks and in the sea, the reason being that there are two big Fur Seal Colonys in and around Kaikoura. These Fur Seals were endangered but are now thriving.

The main Fur Seal colony is on the main South Highway just past Kaikoura near one of the Road Tunnels, it is well sign posted, from a veiwing platform on side of the highway you can at all times see hundreds of big and small Fur seals, frequently there are Seal Cubs frolicing in the shallow rock pools too. They are so cute and fun to watch.
