Amazingly Cheap & Good Seafood @ Parangtritis May 09, 2010
Seafood haven at a very cheap price, almost next to nothing. There is a fish market at Parangtritis where we shopped for fresh seafood and get our meals cooked in local style at the plentiful restaurants around that area. As we were waiting to catch the sunset, unbeknown to us that at after 6pm the whole place was completely dark. The area lacks lighting and there are occasion when the lights go off and on as we ate in the restaurant.

We bought fish, squids and crabs at the market and there are a few people following us around asking us to go to their restaurant and we finally settled for a lady who called herself Bu Sudar. The restaurants there are all the same with dimly lilted lights and straw mats on the floor with low tables. We checked out the kitchen and noticed that the do not use gas but instead wood to fuel the fire and to cook the food. Though the appearance of the food cooked and the presentation may not be fabulous, it was an amazingly tasty meal. One of the best we had in Yogya. We had chose 3 different cooking style for our dish, we had the fish barbequed and served in dark sauce, Tamarind Sweet and Spicy sauce for the crabs and “kicap” dark sauce squids. Our meals were served with white rice and vegetables condiments. We were encouraged to eat with our hands. They don’t really have fork and spoon, just enough spoons use as serving gear for the dishes. The total cost for this meal inclusive of buying the fresh seafood from the market and the cooking, it cost us less than MYR 20, which is about USD 6. I would definitely go again but next time, I will go earlier as it gets really dark walking out to our ride. This is a place where locals go to.
Catch of the day :)

About half an hour away from Malioboro... I think about 30km or so driving through the country side.
