Sea Sar Guest House Kinpun Reviews
Nice bungalows away from the pilgrims noise Dec 26, 2012
Sea Sar Guest House is centrally located in Kinpun next to the truck stop for the trucks leaving for the famous attraction around the area the Golden Rock at the top of Mount Kyaiktiyo. It is also just a few minutes’ walk away from the bus station at the central square in Kinpun. To be fair Kinpun is so small that any hotel or guest house will be pretty centrally located - so in this respect Sea Sar Guest House isn’t all that special. And fortunately we were far enough away from the truck stop so the noise from the frequent departures for the golden rock didn’t wake us up early in the morning.
The guest house consists of a series of bungalows placed within a pretty big garden. Each bungalow actually got three rooms and if you get one of the rooms at the end of the bungalow you’ll have extra windows and more light compared to the one in the middle. The room is pretty big with space for a couple of wooden chairs in addition to the usual stuff - like a bed a fridge and fan in case you want to use this in addition to the air-condition. Outside the room you got a nice little porch where you can sit and enjoy the bird singing and drinking a beer if you got the time. We didn’t really have enough time for such luxuries since we were only in the city for one night and we spend all the afternoon on a trip to the top of the mountain and wondering around the village. But when we got back we notice at least our neighbor took his time to enjoy the better side of life and were drinking a nice sunset beer in front of his bungalow.
In front of the bungalows are a bit grassy lawn which really isn’t used for anything - this gives the area a feel of openness so even with all the bungalows in the middle of the village it still got the open land feeling to it. At the lawn you will have your breakfast in the morning - at least during our stay in the dry season - in case you come during rain I think they had some room inside the building so you can actually eat breakfast without getting wet.
In front of the lawn is a big parking lot - which were pretty full despite the fact the hotel was virtually empty when we stayed there. I assume it was because they let the pilgrims park their cars in front of the hotel (for a fee possibly but I don’t know). I suppose if we had come in a car there would have been space for this as well - the lot was big for such a small hotel.
The staff was pretty helpful and the manage made sure to walk us the short way from the hotel to the truck stop so we got onboard the right truck to the top when we wanted to go to the golden rock. The manager also helped us buy the ticket for the bus the next day for what seemed like a reasonable price - though we did have to bargain a little bit to get the right price.
The hotel were not busy when we stayed there but I was told by our neighbor - who was staying for two days - had to move room the next day because a tour group would be arriving. So the hotel is sometimes busy and it may be necessary to reserve in advance on occasions.
