Sea Dwellers Key Largo Reviews
Snorkeling in the keys...caveat emptor Aug 24, 2010
Sea Dwellers is essentially a scuba dive center located in Key Largo around the Mile Market 100. They also organize snorkeling tours. The company is affiliated with some of the hotels in the area and provides combo packages of stay and dive. Staying at one of these member hotels also gets you a discount on the snorkel and dive trips organized by the Sea Dwellers.
The regular rates for snorkeling and diving are $45 and $80 respectively. If you are a first time diver, you can have a personal instructor for an additional $30. All equipment is included in the package.
They have two trips going out every day. One starting at 8:30 in the morning and the other at 12 noon. The boats depart from the bay area right behind the Holiday Inn hotel located across the road from the Sea Dwellers location.
The tour lasts for 4 hours with two dive/snorkel spots with an hour’s time for each. Drinking water and fruit juice packets are provided on the boat. There is also a cooler to place any personal drinks that you bring along. The tours primarily focus on the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park area.
The center also provides Scuba instruction courses for those interested.
My experience with the tour wasn’t very satisfactory. But I am not sure whether to pin that to the dive center, the captain in charge for the day, or the climate.
Although I will say that in retrospect, this was one of the more expensive centers that we encountered in that area.
Also, Sea Dwellers is more of a dive center. And their tours are more focused on dive spots. They do claim that their tour locations are evenly suited for dive and snorkel activities. But I think it would be prudent to stick to a tour centric to the activity of your choice and not one that combines activities.
