Scuba Diving Bocas del Toro Reviews
Nice water temperature, interesting sea-life and clear waters Feb 15, 2012
Scuba Diving in Bocas del Toro (and surrounding area) is a definite 'do' if you like aquatic life and some exercise. There are various diving schools, which are highly competitive in pricing. When I was there in October 2011, a PADI Open Water course could be found for USD 100, all inclusive. A great deal compared to many other locations around the world. Having dived in various other countries, the equipment is basic and 'OK' in the school I was in. It's not brand new, and definitely used frequently, however, it looked and felt safe to me.
There are various dive sites around the main island, and the various diving schools use various names for them.
A well known location is 'the wreck', with a sunk pontoon-like boat. This one is ideal for beginners due to low current and sloping bottom.
When you are a certified diver, I recommend 'the wall', a steep underwater cliff with many corals and various fish.
Possible sealife you will encounter:
- Nurse sharks
- Puffer fish
- Trumpet fish
- Drum fish
- Starfish (too many ;))
