Scottish Seabird Centre North Berwick Reviews
Gannets galore Sep 03, 2010
For those who do not know, Berwick upon Tweed is in England, having changed 14 times between England and Scotland. Both North Berwick and the County of Berwickshire are in Scotland.
Most visitors from England go straight for Glasgow or Edinburgh - at least the first time. North Berwick would involve a significant detour. On the other hand it is an easy trip for anybody living or on holiday in Edinburgh - and is it worth it!
The town itself is pleasntly situated by the sea with islands close to it and the Bass Rock in sight to the right - covered in what you might first think extra white limestone.
However if you enter the Seabird centre at the harbour and look through the telescopes trained on the rock, it becomes obvious that the white is ever moving. is there anything as white as the white on a gannet? - and is there anything more spectacular than the gannet's vertical dive from terrific heights into the sea?
If you have the cash to spare, you can get much closer to the gannets by taking a trip in a speedboat around the rock. You will also, assuming you go in the breeding season, see puffins on the nearer islands, although their numbers have been dwindling.
