Scoop's Wadena Reviews
Another retro ice-cream joint Jun 13, 2008
If, by some remote chance, you're driving through Wadena, Saskatchewan at the entrance to town from highway 35, you'll find a retro soda fountain establishment called Scoop's. It is an up-dated version of a soda fountain first opened in Wadena in 1962. It has a drive-through window but the interior is so bright and colourful, it is worth the time to go inside for the full experience. I ordered a "Willie" - their deluxe hamburger, smarty - and a butterscotch milkshake and my wife ordered deep fried perogies. We left happy. Another reason for stopping at Scoops is that the ladies who work there know everything that's happening in town. For several decades people have been moving away from small town Saskatchewan. Now there is a booming housing market in Wadena as people from Toronto sell their million dollar houses, move to Saskatchewan and buy the same quality of house for 1/10 of the Toronto price. For ice cream and information this is the place to stop.
