Funny aproach to the war... Apr 02, 2008
If you walk down Laurinska, and then turn right on Rybárska brána you will find a life size statue with a top hat in his hand, waveing it with a welcoming gesture.

This silver painted statue acctually represents a real person, a native of Bratislava nicknamed Schöner Nazi His real name was Ignác Lamar and was born on August 12th 1897, as the son of a shoemaker in Petrázalka.

Schöner Nazi used to frequent Bratislava's pubs and coffee shops and has become an inseparable part of Bratislava's folklore.

It is to be added, that the name of the statue is Schöner Náci, the nickname for Ignáci, thus it has nothing to do with Nazi and WW II. He is known as "schön" (beautiful) because he was always looking polished and handing out compliments and flowers to passing by ladies.
